Description: Reverse reads: "Sidney Lathe" Sidney Tool Company was founded in 1905 by Alfred C. Getz in Sidney, Ohio. Getz was also acting plant manager for Monarch Machine Tool, also in Sidney, during the same time. Sidney Machine Tool Co. was purchased by Buhr Machine Tool Co. in 1961, which was then purchase by Summerfeld Machine Co in 1963. They stopped manufacturing lathes in 1964. Sommerfeld-Sidney was then purchased by McMadden Machine Co in 1967. In 1974, John and Mary Sherbondy began using the name Sidney Machine Tool Co. and, using purchased drawings began supplying parts for Sidney lathes. View on Ohio Memory.

Description: Photograph of Frank A. Earl of Shelby County. Electrocuted December 20, 1907, for the Murder of William Legg. On April 20, 1907, Frank Earl and Frank Walter broke into William Legg's meat market in Sidney, Ohio, and demanded money at gunpoint. There were two shots fired, and Legg was killed. Although Earl maintained his innocence until the end, declaring, at his execution, that he had not killed Legg, he was charged guilty and executed in December, 1907. Description: Photograph showing a culvert, which is a drain or pipe allowing water to flow under a structure (e.g. a road). The caption beneath the photograph reads: "East End- Culvert-Baker Road,| Sidney Feeder, July 1916." The attached description located on the back of the page reads: "PHOTOGRAPH No. 18. and 19.| BAKER ROAD CULVERT.| This photograph shows the east and west ends of Baker Road Culvert located underneath the Sidney Feeder. This culvert accommodates a public highway; also stream flows from a certain drainage creek in this locality. This culvert is built of stone and it is becoming disintegrated. The stones forming the arch of this culvert are dropping down and is dangerous to traffic; rupture is also feared as the entire structure is liable to collapse at any moment, thereby shutting off public traffic and flooding private lands in addition to destroying the feeder itself." This photograph is part of a series taken by the Board of the Ohio Department of Public Works to document the disrepair of the infrastructure of the Ohio and Erie Canal and Miami-Erie Canal systems in 1916, showing the physical condition of each structure. The Ohio Department of Public Works is one of the oldest departments of state government in continuous existence. Among its other duties, this department was charged with maintenance and administration of the Ohio & Erie and Miami-Erie Canals. View on Ohio Memory.
